Review of Immolation by Sam Reese

This book deals with some awkward subjects concerning abuse, both overt and in ways more subtle. Lydia gains the power to control fire due to a 150 year old curse on the females of her family. She is tormented for being different at school by the popular kids and isolated my her families wealth and her own terrible secrets. When she gains the power to avenge her abuser and extract retribution over the kids at school who call her a witch and a whore, she discovers it comes with a price.

As a debut novel this is a strong showing as a story but does have moments where the inexperience shows, however Sam will undoubtedly go on to give us some great novels in the future. 3-5 out of 5 for this but don’t be fooled – Sam can tell a story, and this is one you should read!
